Nair is the name of a Hindu upward caste from Kerala. They are, basically, a Kshatriya caste belonging to the Nagavanshi order and are also called Nayars. Nairs have always been prominent politicians, government servants, and medical experts and have significant positions in education and law. They comprise of one of the most important sections among the Hindus of Kerala. They also contribute as the rulers, land owners and warriors to the land of kerela and are known for their martial history.
