Tamilians are an ethnic and native group of Tamil Nadu and the north-eastern region of Sri Lanka. Besides that, emigrant Tamil communities are found across the world. Tamils are largely Hindus with sizeable Christian and Muslim populations.
Tamil is the first Indian language to be given a classical status. Amongst other Dravidian languages, it has the oldest extant literature. The art and architecture of the Tamil people encompass some of the remarkable contributions from India to the art world.
