Thevar is a Sanskrit word that literally means ‚aristocrats‚„. Thevar people together form a group called Mukkulathor which consists of three clans namely- Agamudaiyar, Maravar and Kallar. With an estimated population of around 20 million; Thevars are found in the states of Tamil Nadu and Chattisgarh in India. They are also settled in countries like Sri Lanka, Singapore, Canada and Malaysia.
Like various other Hindu communities in India, Thevar matrimonial is also based on the concept of endogamy.
