Iyer is the title given to the Hindu Brahmins of Tamil origin majority of which resides in Tamil Nadu. They are the pancha Dravida Brahmin who are followers of Advaita philosophy propounded by Adi Shankara. They live a very traditional life and celebrate Deepavali, Pongal, Vinayak Chaturthi, Karthik Deepam and other Hindu festivals with lots of zeal. Their weddings involve various rituals starting with Nischayadhartham, Kasi Yatra Oonjal, Kanyadanam, Mangalayadharanam, Saptapadi and Nalangu.
