Vellalar community is basically Tamilian, specifically South Tamil Nadu and is mainly involved in agricultural activities. Vellalars are different from Veerashaiva, but intermarriages between Vellalar brides & Veerashaiva grooms, or vice versa, is possible. Wedding is mostly arranged in the months of Vaikaasi, Aani and Aavani, which continue for three days. A Vellalar bride is decorated in fragrant jasmine flowers, and heavy gold jewellery. The Vellalar brides wear Kanchipuram Sari for wedding.
