The Vellalar grooms are educated and are mostly into jobs in private and government sector. The weddings are avoided in the months of Aadi and maargazhi and Chithirai. A Vellalar groom ties a thali around the neck of her bride, amidst the sacred music of Mangala Vaazhthu and Nadaswaram. After the tying the thali, the bride is made to sit by the left side of the Vellalar groom, facing east direction. The marriage events end with the serving of a feast to all relatives, friends and the invitees.
