The term 'Kshatriya' means warriors and is one of the four varnas or social orders in Hinduism. In fact, till date Kshatriya heritage reigns supreme is the Indian Army with its majority composed by them.
Besides Ghosh, Basu, Guha and Mitra who are given precedence among Bengali kshatriyas, other surnames such as Pal, Datta, Dev and Ray are also kshatriyas. Matrimony celebrations in Bengali Kshatriyas spans several days as customs are divided into pre wedding, wedding and post wedding rituals.
