Bihari Hindus are an ethnic group originating from the state of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Nepal. They speak Bihari languages like Bhojpuri and Maithili as well as others like Hindi and Urdu. The majority of Bihari Hindu Brahmins are Kanyakubja, Bhatt, Maithili or Shakdwipi Brahmins. Bhumihar Brahmins have had great presence in the Bengal Army as much as almost 50% of the Hindus in military service. Brahmins have many gotras and their marriages are laden with traditions.
