Bihari Hindus can be found in the states of Maharashtra and West Bengal besides the region of Bihar. Hindus are in great majority in Bihar with considerable population of castes like Brahmins, Rajputs, Yadavs, Kurmis, Banias and Kayasthas. The Kayastha community has been traditionally associated with higher education.
Marriage in Bihari Hindu Kayasthas allows family exogamy but rejects other ethnic or social groups as being unsuitable for matrimonial or other such close personal relationships.
