Lingayat is the largest population of Karnataka with 21% of the total population in the state. They are a Hindu sect that follows the teachings of Panchacharyas and Basava. Lingayat sect does not believe in Hindu caste system and believe in monotheistic world. Lingayats are also known as Veerashaiva and are also found in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Gujarat in India. their main festivals are Basava Jayanthi and Maha Shivaratri and are mainly involved in education sector.
