Goa in southwest India is divided into two districts- North Goa and South Goa and further divided into 11 talukkas. The origin of the name Goa may have come either from Portugese or from Sanskrit in ancient literature. Panaji, Vasco, Margao, Mapusa and Mormugao are the 5 major cities of the state. Natives of Goa are referred to as Goans, Goenkars, Govekars and Goes or Goesa. Around 65% of the entire population of Goa is made up of Hindus with Christians in significant minority i.e. nearly 25%.
