A Muslim is the one who adheres to the religion of Islam. The female form is Muslimah. The literal meaning of the word is "one who submits (to God)". They believe that there is only one God, translated in Arabic as Allah.
Muslims may be divided into two sects- Sunni's and Shia's but Sunni is the largest branch of Islam comprising up to 90% of the total Muslim population of the world. An organized community, they follow one of the 4 schools of law (madhabs) - Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi'i and Hanbali.
