Hindu Brahmins living in the Assam state of India are known as Assamese Brahmins. Hindu Brahmins can mostly be found in the Upper areas of Assam and the places surrounding it. Places like, Jorhat and Guwahati, have the maximum number of Brahmins, out of which few castes of Assamese Brahmins are Barooahs, Rajkhowa, Sharma, Khounds, Borthakurs, Phukan, etc. Assamese Brahmins are said to have their genesis from far places like, UP, Rajasthan to Karnataka and each Brahmin family has a specific Gotra.
