| According to the caste system, Baidya grooms are Bengali Hindus, who rank next to Brahmins in West Bengal, and are well educated. Baidyas are believed to be the medicine practitioners in ancient times, and is the community where Vaidya Dhanvantari was born. The Baidya community is a dynamic one, which has always marked a strong presence in the cultural and social arena of West Bengal. A Baidya groom wears dhoti and silk kurta for their wedding, along with a headgear known as topor. |
