India is the motherland of Brahmins, the priestly class of teachers and scholars. The people in Madhya Pradesh form a medley of ethnic groups, castes and communities where Hindi is the main language. In western MP, especially in the malwa region, there are many 'shrigoud' brahmins. As 'Gaud' means root, they are considered to be the root of all the other classified Brahmins. The clan of highly esteemed Upreti Brahmins is also found in this state. Marriage in MP Brahmins is generally low key.
