Telugu Chennai is the community of those people who speak Telugu as their main language and are either native to or settled in Chennai. Telugu people form a significant community in Chennai and this is why Telugu is one of the commonly spoken languages in the city along with others like Tamil, English and Malayalam. According to 2001 census, Chennai has a population of nearly 4.5 million and more than 80% of them follow Hinduism. The residents of Chennai are popularly referred to as Chennaites.
