The word Kapu in Telugu means protector or farmer and Telugu Kapu are an indo-Aryan farmer community in Andhra Pradesh and have surnames like Naidu, Nayaka, Naisher and so on. Kapu is the single largest community in Andhra Pradesh located in the coastal districts of Rayalaseema and North Telangana region. A significant population of Hindu Kapu's is also settled in other southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala including western states like Maharashtra and Chattisgarh.
