Bihari Muslims are people originating from the Indian State of Bihar who practice Islam as their religion. Bihari Muslims mainly follow Sunni Islam of the Hanafi creed but a small Shia minority also exists.
The majority of educated Bihari Muslims speak Urdu. They are divided along fairly strict tribal or caste lines. Bihari Muslims have a rich culture representing synchronization between Arab and local Hindu Bihari traditions. They consider marriage outside the clan and tribe is a social taboo.
