The people of Assam are known as Assamese which are multi-religious and multi-ethnic people. Most of the Assamese population is either engaged in argiculture or in government jobs. They lead a simple, relaxed and laid back life and are not over ambitious. Assamese weddings are also very simple where the Assamese groom is tied into matrimony through an arranged marriage concept within the caste or religion. Assamese groom on their wedding day wear silk kurta dhoti with white scarf on a shoulder.
