Chamar is a prominent occupational caste in India, Pakistan and Nepal. Hindu Chamar is a Dalit sub-caste chiefly found in the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi. Chamars form the second-largest caste in India with a population of more than 50 million and are active in politics. In fact, they are among the most highly influential groups among scheduled castes.
